Soroptimists are women of all ages, cultures and ethnic groups. Members represent a wide array of professions, including doctors, attorneys, teachers, chief executive officers, business owners and government officials. Soroptimists, who are leaders in their communities, believe that by joining with other women they can make the world a better place. Membership provides a number of material and intangible benefits for women wishing to use their time and talents in the service of other women.

Soroptimist International Has a Membership
Class for Everyone

Typical Soroptimist members are those working in a profession or business, or in an occupation with comparable status or responsibilities. Members in this class are referred to as "Regular members." Regular members pay full international and local club dues and are entitled to all the privileges that go with it, including holding club office and representing the club at regional, national and international conferences as a delegate.

In 2001, Soroptimist International added two new classes of members, opening its doors to even more women with a desire to serve their communities and the world.

"
Retired/Unemployed members" are those recently retired from or temporarily or permanently out of work from a profession or business, or an occupation of comparable status or responsibilities. So, for instance, if you owned and operated your own business for the last five years, but the business closed and you are presently looking for work or have decided to retire, you may now join Soroptimist as a member in this class.

"
Embarking members" are those who are in the process of establishing their careers or professions, whether just entering or new to the workforce or in training. So if you are presently enrolled in law school, for example, you may join Soroptimist as a member in this class. The same is true for those who are presently working to gain experience to become employed in their chosen profession.

Retired/unemployed members or embarking members who later meet the requirements for regular membership may change their membership classification at any time.

If you’d like to become a Soroptimist, please contact us. We’ll help you decide the right membership classification for you.
