Our local Soroptimist International of Susanville has been an active service club in our community for 60 years. The club was chartered in 1950 as a service club for wives that worked in their husbands businesses. It is now a service club for Professional and Business women as well as retired women.

There have been many changes over the past 60 years and Soroptimist of Susanville is proud to be an organization that is keeping up with our changing world and it's modern needs. Listed below are just a few of the service projects that we are working on in our community.

Our Projects

$5000.00 in Annual Scholarships
Soroptimist offers scholarships to high school and junior college students as well as awards for women and teens that give back to our community.

Baby think it over
We purchased 20 new computerized babies for Lassen High School's "Baby think it over" program. For a donation of over $10,000. dollars. We continue to work with the health teachers to ensure that the program continues to serve its purpose of helping teens realize the responsibility of having a baby.

Christmas Party
Each year we adopt 10 to 15 children and their parents for Christmas. We give them clothes, toys, and food gift cards, but the best part is the Santa Party. We have a lunch party with Santa for all of the kids and their parents. They all get to sit on Santa's lap and have their picture taken. We also take family photo's and frame them. It is so much fun for our members and the kids

Girls Self Esteem Program
Last year our club started our first annual Girls Self Esteem Program. The program was based on the Dove Self Esteem project but put on with Soroptimist flare. We hosted 15 girls and their mom or mentor for a fun day of speakers, activities and a cateered lunch. The girls ages 9-13 had a wonderful time and cant wait until we do it again!

Teen Esteem and Teen Dating Violence Awareness Day
In January we are hosting a Teen Self Esteem Workshop that will include professional speakers, lunch and a 3 hour self defense course. The Girsl Self Esteem Program was so successful we decided to host something similar for Teenage girls in our community.

Project Hope
100 "Hope" necklaces were purchased from Avon and donated to Banner Lassen Hospital and Renown Hospital in Reno. The necklaces are being given to Cancer Patients at the Infusion Centers as a Graduation Gift when they complete their chemo treatments. The idea came from one of our members that was taking her mother to her chemo treatments and a nurse had made beaded key chains to give as gifts. The project has turned into a joint project with the Reno area Truckee Meadows Soroptimist Club and they will be working with Reno area Infusion Centers in the future to expand and continue the project.
